Sometimes, we have to find something to help us through the day. Different things work for different people. Some people have a song, some people have material things, and some just need words. It may change and it may stay the same.
I've decided on a new one for me.
"It doesn't matter."
Passive, maybe. Truthful, yes.
Those words won't mean the same thing to you as they will to me. That's the thing about mantras... what's yours, belongs to you. Doesn't mean you can't share though. :)
What does it mean to me?
Happiness is something that lives inside us. We spend our lives searching for some outside source that doesn't exist. Sure, some things may give fleeting happiness, but the only lasting happiness is something that comes from within. You can make a conscious decision to be happy.
So, why don't we have a society that just leaps around in pure bliss if it's that simple?
Well, it's not. The interactions with others effect our moods and our lives. This is where the mantra comes in...
"It doesn't matter."
We can't let the outside world effect our inside world.

If someone says something mean...
"It doesn't matter!"
Don't take it to heart. Don't let their problems be yours.
If someone doesn't want to be around you...
"It doesn't matter!"
There are other people out there you would be happy to share your company. Maybe you want their company but why spend your time around people that don't want you around?
If someone trash talks you...
"It doesn't matter!"
They are not sharing your truths. You know what's in your heart. Don't let your world be changed by someone who doesn't care about you.

This by no means suggests that you should just put up with people hurting you. You can never control someone's action but you can ALWAYS control your own reaction. You can choose to take the people out of your life that hurt you, but understand that there will always be someone waiting in the wings to take their place. You could also choose to understand hurtful people. Get to the heart of why they are hurtful and you will probably find that they are hurting you because they hurt. You don't need to push them away. They probably need a friend the most.
Just remember that what they say and do to hurt you doesn't matter. The choice is always yours. Don't take life so personally.
